Wolves Reach Total Agreement For Right Back Jackson Tchatchoua

According to Fabrizio Romano, Wolves have completed a deal worth just over £10 million for the player, ending their long pursuit of a replacement for Nelson Semedo.

The 23 year old is set for his medical on Friday, with Wolves hoping to seal his signature before the afternoon deadline to ensure his availability for the opening weeken. This however remains to be an unlikely scenario.

Why did Wolves want him?

Vitor Pereira has favoured a policy of buying players that can cope with the physicality of the Premier League. Similarly to David Wolfe on the left flank, Jackson Tchatchoua provides height (6ft1) and defensive stability in the wing back position, where it was often seen to be a vulnerable area for back post crosses.

The additional height across the back five also make Wolves more potent from set pieces in both penalty areas. Wolves only scored 9 goals from set pieces all season, the 16th worst statistically- therefore it is clear why Pereira wanted to address this issue. It is expected that Jackson Tchatchoua will be first choice, replacing Ki-Jana Hoever, who enjoyed a positive pre season.

The Cameroonian has made appearances for his national side and started every game for Hellas Verona in the Serie A last season. With only two goals and three assist, it’s clear that he is a defensive minded asset, one that will hopefully address Wolves’ defensive concerns.
